The month of October was the balm that mended Barcelona’s wounds. After years of setbacks against European giants, the Catalan giants finally redeemed themselves—not only by overcoming the teams that had given them the most trouble in recent seasons but by doing so in consecutive encounters
Producing statement performances against Bayern Munich and Real Madrid in the same week, Barcelona scored 21 goals and conceded just twice in five games in all competitions in October.
While several players stepped up to the plate, one of the primary protagonists of the club’s success proved to be Robert Lewandowski who notched an incredible 10 goals.
Lewandowski repaid for his efforts
Now, honoring the immense month he enjoyed, La Liga have named Lewandowski the October player-of-the-month.
His hat-trick against Alaves and braces against Sevilla and Real Madrid unsurprisingly helped him clinch the award over other competitors, including Vinicius Junior, Alex Berenguer, Antoine Griezmann, and Mikel Oyarzabal.
It must be noted that Barcelona have claimed the La Liga Player of the Month award each month since the season began. Raphinha took the honor in August, Yamal followed in September, and now Lewandowski has completed the attacking trident by winning it in October.
Given Hansi Flick’s high-voltage system, the forwards have enjoyed the most fun in Barcelona’s set-up. Lewandowski’s recent performances indicate that he is hellbent on replicating his success from his time at Bayern Munich.
The Polish striker currently leads both the Pichichi and Golden Boot races with an impressive 14 domestic goals. Following his outstanding performances in October, Lewandowski is undoubtedly in high spirits, and the Player of the Month award will only further elevate his confidence.
