With what many have deemed the current best frontline in the world, it may come as a shock that Barcelona are looking to improve upon it further but such is the spirit of Flick ball. No feat is great enough, no triumph satisfactory.
This is why, according to Fichajes, the Blaugranes are vying for Borussia Dortmund forward Karim Adeyemi’s hand. At only 22 years of age, the youngster has taken the world, specifically Barcelona, by storm. His speed and attacking presence are near impossible to ignore which is why many other major European clubs such as Liverpool also have their eyes on him.
The plan is for a swap deal, Ferran Torres in exchange for Adeyemi, with Torres bringing down the nearly €50 million price on Adeyemi’s head to a more economic value for the cash-strapped club.
Why the need for a new forward?
While our frontline may be beyond critique, it is of note that Lewandowski, a near-permanent fixture in Flick’s starting line-up, is 36 years old. Relying solely on someone who is not only at a heightened risk of injuries but also running short on his prime years is a risk.
With both energy and a fresh pair of legs, the German could be the answer to the Catalan’s prayers and might even be our way of offloading Ferran Torres, who despite his valiant efforts, has failed to excel with a red and blue jersey and fit with Flick’s system.
Though it is known that Flick admires the Spaniard’s expertise on the wing and in the center, he may be better off elsewhere while the Blaugranes could benefit by parting ways with him. Adeyemi, however, has both youth and immense skill, offering the Blaugranes a unique versatility in play.
If the club management does go down this route, it is of note that acquiring him will not be a walk in the park as he is a well-sought-after player, in his prime years, and a vessel of talent. However, if they are successful, it could be a great move on their part paving the way for an inevitable future without Lewandowski.
