Having finally secured the long-awaited signing of Joan Garcia, Barcelona show no signs of resting on their laurels, with additional reinforcements still firmly on the agenda for the summer transfer window.
The Catalan giants came incredibly close to a historic treble last season, with a lack of squad depth proving a key stumbling block. This is something the club is now determined to rectify.
An imminent signing is expected
While financial constraints have frequently prevented the club from fully spreading their wings in the transfer market, President Joan Laporta has moved to quash any lingering doubts. He insists that Joan Garcia will not be the only arrival this summer.
“We can sign players normally & are in the 1:1. We are about to make an imminent signing and are working on another,” Laporta boldly declared (h/t Reshad Rehman).
Speculation surrounding Nico Williams’ potential move to Barcelona has intensified, particularly after sporting director Deco boarded a flight to Ibiza today to hold a series of discussions with the player and his representatives.
Laporta has now come to add fuel to the fire, claiming:
“And we will also surely make a big signing, which we are very excited about.”
With Nico Williams’ strong desire to join Barcelona—having made the club his clear priority over other suitors—and a relatively affordable €58 million release clause, the long-running transfer saga is expected to reach its conclusion this summer.
Relationship with La Liga on the right path
La Liga president Javier Tebas is no stranger to taking digs at Barcelona, but has recently softened his tone when addressing the club. Joan Laporta, for his part, believes the relationship between the two sides is now on a more constructive path—raising expectations that new signings could be officially announced in the near future.
“We currently have a flexible and smooth relationship with La Liga, which is why I believe we will be able to announce new signings soon,” Laporta said.
