With the January transfer window fast approaching, rumors are bound to make the rounds, and it seems that this season, the rumor mill has taken a liking to Swedish starlet Viktor Gyökeres
With 23 goals and 4 assists to his name this early into the season, he is one of the most coveted strikers in the world and has attracted the attention of many major clubs, one of which happens to be Barcelona.
The 26-year-old would be a dream signing for the Blaugranes, who are currently in search of a long-term substitute for Lewandowski, who is nearing the end of his prime and believe Gyökeres would be the perfect man for the job landing him near the top of their list of priority signings.
What lies in Gyökeres’s future?
This weekend the Sporting FC maestro took to the media to discuss his plans for the second half of the season when, as cited by Fabrizio Romano, he stated, “I want to finish this season at Sporting. I love it here. New club? We will see when the time comes. I want to play, that’s crucial… and there will also be other factors.”
The major takeaway from this statement is that he ostensibly wants to see the season through at Sporting FC which could either further motivate his suitors to try even harder or maybe deter them.
However, it is important to note his openness to a change of environment in the near future, though beyond that, it is still possible that something entirely contradictory to his sentiment is going on behind the scenes.
As of now, there is no confirmation that the Catalan Giants are planning a major transfer in the January window, and it’s entirely possible they too will wait out the season before making any big decisions.
All will reveal itself when the time is right and until then the world will have to stew in curiosity.
