The signing of Dani Olmo brings great opportunities. Still, it could be said that it shouldn’t have taken precedence over more crucial signings pertaining to positions in which the Blaugranes have been found lacking.
However, if the Catalans wish to secure more signings for these currently forsaken positions they would need a heavy cash flow, a drawback they have been sparring with, for what seems like ages now.
Now, Matteo Moretto (h/t Reshad Rehman) reports that transfers are a priority for Barcelona at this point, and to secure the necessary finances for these signings, the Catalan giants are open to offloading star midfielder Frenkie de Jong.
Barcelona aim to offload Frenkie de Jong
Every new transfer market brings with it rumors regarding the departure of veteran Frenkie de Jong, and once again the Dutch midfielder finds himself facing the possibility of a departure.
Once a maestro now a thorn in the side, De Jong has gone through many stages during the 5 years that he has donned the red and blue shirt and it might be time for him to part ways with it.
His lackluster performance, coupled with Barcelona’s need for an economic reprieve creates a motive for them to dispose of the accomplished player.
According to Matteo Moretto, Barcelona have put a €60 million price tag on the midfielder with added bonuses. If they are, indeed able to fetch this price for him they could reinvest it towards lucrative transfers.
That said, Barcelona’s desire to dispose of Frenkie for that sum is unlikely to materialize given the Dutchman’s injury troubles this year. Having picked up an ankle injury back in April, he has yet to return to action, decreasing his value to suitors.
In any case, as the rumor mill works in overdrive, two names frequently emerge in connection to De Jong: Manchester United and, interestingly, Arsenal. At this stage, nothing has been confirmed or denied.
There is no doubt that De Jong has made a lasting impression on the Blaugranes, coming in clutch during various high-stakes matches and so wherever he plants his feet next he will surely be positively received.
