FC Barcelona’s desire to trim their roster is an open secret by now as they aspire to achieve financial equilibrium and facilitate new signings.

Despite only a few days remaining before the summer transfer window slams shut, several players appear destined to leave, with Julian Araujo being the latest to join the fray.

Araujo on his way to Bournemouth

Indeed, according to Fabrizio Romano Julian Araujo’s move to Bournemouth is officially confirmed. All the documents were finalized as reported yesterday, and the deal is now sealed.

Moreover, Barcelona will receive a €10 million fixed fee for the Mexican right-back, with no buy-back option and no sell-on clause included.

Julian Araujo is set to travel later today for his move to Bournemouth. He will undergo medical tests on Monday, marking the final step before the deal is officially completed.

Why did Barcelona sell Julain Araujo?

Although Araujo impressed during his loan spell at Las Palmas last season, the 22-year-old failed to fully win over coach Hansi Flick during the pre-season tour, featuring minimally and being outdone by his peers, notably Alex Valle.

As such, the Catalan giants saw it best to leverage Araujo’s market value and facilitate his transfer to Bournemouth, securing a solid financial return while allowing Araujo the opportunity to continue his development elsewhere.

The full-back’s departure will not only help Barcelona accelerate their efforts to comply with the La Liga 1:1 financial rule, but also opens the door for them to pursue Joao Cancelo.

Manchester City, Cancelo’s parent club, prefers to secure a permanent transfer rather than a loan deal. By offloading Araujo, Barcelona can free up the necessary funds to potentially bring Cancelo back.
