Having been out of action since suffering a serious knee injury that battered his ACL and meniscus back in November, the Blaugranes have sorely missed Gavi, the yearning for him made worse with growing uncertainty around Frenkie de Jong’s status post-injury.
The 19-year-old has been hard at work restoring his physical fitness to what it was before his injury, hoping to have a swift recovery and it seems his wish might be granted after all.
Gavi has rejoined group training
At last, the young prodigy earned the green light to participate in group training yesterday on Thursday.
His return will undeniably lighten the pressure on Barcelona’s midfield which is currently coping with the loss of not only de Jong but also Marc Bernal who are both expected to be out of commission for the foreseeable future.
Understandably, the youngster will not come back on a full-time basis rather he will gradually build up his energy and so his coming back does not guarantee that he will see any substantial action straight away. The current focus will be on an absolute recovery and for Gavi to work out any kinks before returning to the big stage.
According to Mundo Deportivo, it could take until October or even November, when he was predicted to return, for the juvenile to get the medical all-clear. It is apparent that the Catalans are taking all possible precautions as they have a track record of mishandling injuries and to botch Gavi’s recovery would be a serious blunder for he is a phenomenon Barcelona will be hard-pressed to come by twice.
For now, all we can do is hold our breath and hope that Gavi is able to make a full recovery before our midfield becomes a true reason for concern.
