As Barcelona nears the commencement of the 2024/25 La Liga season, questions arise regarding the several indisposed players Hansi Flick has to make up for. Flick has far from a complete squad with several crucial players out on injury.
The Blaugranes have a poor record in the injury department as they grapple with what seems like a toppling team going down like dominos at the hands of perhaps their greatest nemesis, injuries.
Positive developments in Pedri’s recovery
Flick, however, offers some placation in the form of a statement, that Pedri could participate in the opening match against Valencia tomorrow with an appearance in the second half.
This comes as a shock to many considering Pedri wasn’t expected back for a while longer having suffered a grade-two sprain in his left knee during the Euro 2024 back in mid-July.
The teenage sensation returned to training with the group on Wednesday and has received the medical all-clear having recovered in record time. His homecoming would be an opportunity for Barca to start the season off on a sure foot with a win that goes beyond the scoreboard.
It can be assumed that the star midfielder would be elated by his hasty recovery and the implications of said speed considering the constant talk of him being an injury-prone player and the scrutiny that accompanies such an accusation.
Dani Olmo to miss the inaugural match
On the flip side, new signing Dani Olmo has been denied the chance to finally don the Barca jersey on account of him not being physically ready and not due to a hitch in his registration. Flick stated, “Dani Olmo is not in a good enough physical condition for tomorrow,” so they are avoiding the risk of an injury this early into the season.
Overall, an engrossing clash can be expected between the two veteran teams tomorrow and if all goes well, Barcelona should be able to secure those 3 points and get the ball rolling.
