Though not initially part of the Spain National team, Pau Cubarsi was called up by Luis de la Fuente following the injury to Aston Villa defender Pau Torres, opening up a spot for the 17-year-old.
As big an achievement as it may be, especially for a man of his age, the last-minute call-up was a serious cause of concern for the Blaugranes as Cubarsi was nursing a blow to the face resulting in 10 stitches due to an unfortunate incident in the game against Red Star Belgrade which was subsequently the reason he was initially left out of the list for Spain.
Despite the gnarly injury, he was able to start in the following game against Real Sociedad and so the juvenile was summoned to play for Spain.
Cubarsi to miss the clash with Denmark
Now, Mundo Deportivo reports that the La Masia prodigy has been left out of the squad for the clash against Denmark at the club’s behest as he is not only recovering from an injury but was also ostensibly going through a bout of illness from which they wanted him to recover.
After a thorough discussion between the Catalan club and the Spanish Football Federation during which Dr. Ricard Pruna, head of Barça’s medical department shed light on the youngster’s condition, it was decided that the best course of action was to leave him out of the squad for the time being.
Lifting a weight off their shoulders, a very Cubarsi-dependent Barcelona has welcomed this outcome with open arms, and Hansi Flick who was especially concerned regarding the situation has been relieved of his tensions.
It remains to be seen whether Cubarsi will be available for the ensuing match with Switzerland but Barcelona hopes his physical well-being is prioritized. We can only wait and see how the controversial Luis de la Fuente will handle the situation.
