While FC Barcelona seemed to have lost their grip on Nico Williams after significant efforts, the taut string binding both parties has yet to snap completely.
Nico Williams has turned down PSG’s enticing offer but has not given Barcelona a definitive answer, leaving the situation unresolved and up in the air.
Barcelona still have a hat in the ring
Indeed, according to Gerard Romero Barcelona have recently held discussions with Nico Williams’ representatives. While the journalist prefers not to disclose further details to avoid complications, he argues that that the situation involving Nico Williams remains active and has been renewed.
Despite Nico Williams’ return to Bilbao perceived by many as an end to the saga, the Nico Williams chapter remains very much alive, with the player continuing to be a major target for Barcelona.
Discussions with the winger’s representatives are ongoing and will persist until the player definitively rules out the Barcelona option, which he has yet to do.
Joan Laporta is spearheading the operation
Doubling down on the revived nature of the saga, SPORT have come out to report that Joan Laporta is fully committed to pursuing Nico Williams. The president believes that securing sporting success this season could enhance his prospects in the upcoming elections.
Even though the Blaugranes just completed the signing of Dani Olmo for a hefty fee, recent agreements have eased Barcelona’s financial situation. The club has secured €40 million from the sale of 10% of Barça Studios. Another €60 million from the sale of 24.5% of Barça Studios is expected soon through a different club sponsor.
As such, the €100 million payment to La Liga will enable Barça to operate under the 1:1 rule and register new players. Additionally, Barcelona have secured financing for the signings of Nico Williams and Dani Olmo.
Given the Catalans’ desperation to see the move materialize, Laporta will personally lead the negotiations to persuade Nico Williams, implicitly warning that this opportunity may not come again.
All in all, the decision from Nico Williams is still pending, but it is clear that Barcelona’s pursuit of the winger is far from over. The club remains fully committed to securing his signing.
