After convincingly beating one of La Liga’s most offensively proficient lineups in Villarreal, the Catalans are now tasked with a completely different challenge as they have to find a way to break down the defensively resilient setup of Getafe.

Flick’s style of play has exceeded the expectations of the footballing fraternity, transforming the Catalans into an offensive machine of gargantuan proportions. However if Flick is able to maintain this free flowing scoring against Getafe, it will be a highly impressive achievement.

Getafe’s Style of Play

Under the management of Jose Bardalas, Getafe are most notorious for their painfully annoying defensive playstyle. The Catalans have been frequently a victim to their low block, which at times seems utterly unbreakable. Bordalas’ men pride themselves on their physical rigour in order to halt any offensive approaches made towards their box.

Lining up in a formation which consists of 5 defensive talents at the back, Getafe will give up almost all of the possession to the Catalans. Therefore, it will be a true test of Barcelona’s offensive potency against Getafe. Barca will have to play at a quick tempo if they want to break down Getafe’s defense.

Getafe’s Recent Form

As the league standings currently stand, Getafe have found themselves in the dreaded relegation zone as they are in 19th place. Out of their first 6 games, they are yet to secure a win as they have gotten a total of 4 draws and 2 losses in these games.

To their credit, Getafe have La Liga’s 2nd best defense as they have conceded only 5 goals in these first 6 games. This total is one which matches both Barca and Real Madrid, a testament to Getafe’s defensive proficiency.

Getafe are also La Liga’s worst scoring team, which is why they have landed themselves a place in the relegation zone. Scoring only 3 times out of these first 6 games, it is seemingly obvious that Getafe have absolutely no sense of offensive innovation to their game.

Getafe’s Threatening Talents

Getafe do not possess many outstanding individual talents. Their playstyle is one which depends on how well they mesh as a team, reliant on good communication between the backline during the games.

However, Borja Mayoral is expected to get his first start of the 2024/25 league campaign after his return from the knee injury he suffered last season. Mayoral could provide the visitors with some goalscoring acumen as his ability to be productive from a minimal amount of chances is most admirable.

In defense, Omar Alderete is their most notable talent. The Paraguayan International is highly competent at consistently winning duels and possesses the ability to make clearances in abundance. Moreover, he is their primary outlet to get the ball out of the back where Alderete has the tendency to play a lot of long balls out.
