Competition: La Liga 2024/25

With the return of Club Football after the highly dreaded International Break, fans are excited to see whether Barcelona can maintain their impeccable run of form. The Catalans face off against a challenging opposition in Girona who are easily Spain’s best emerging team in the past seasons.

Girona’s Style of Play

Girona play a very exciting brand of football, much in contrast to the low block oriented football we see from other Spanish teams. For reference, they were La Liga’s second best goal scoring team last season where their goal tally surpassed that of FC Barcelona as well.

However, this dynamic offensive does not come at the cost of compromising on defensive structure. Girona are well versed in negating opposing attacks and give up minimal goals when they are at their best.

Barcelona will have their work cut out for them as they will face a team who has the technical talent to challenge their possessional dominance. Nevertheless, the Catalans still head into this fixture as the superior team.

Girona’s Recent Form

Girona started their season in shaky manner as they drew 1-1 against Betis in their season opener which was then followed by a 3-0 thrashing against Atletico Madrid.

In spite of this lackluster start, they have started regaining their last season form. Girona gave Osasuna a 4-0 thumping in their third league fixture and followed that up with a highly impressive 2-0 away win against Sevilla.

For the entirety of the season, they’ve scored 7 goals while conceding 4 goals in the first 4 games. 6 of their 7 goals scored have come in their last 2 games, all while conceding a grand total of zero goals.

Girona’s Threatening Talents

Despite losing out on the goal scoring prowess of Artem Dovbyk, Girona were able to sign Abel Ruiz who is a face that the Catalans are quite familiar with. The Spaniard is quite competent at making goal scoring advances and has started his season in prolific manner.

Girona also possess the technical talents of Bryan Gil who will look to create openings within the Barca defense from the left wing but Gil can also look to get on the ball in central areas to create threatening attacks.

In defense, Miguel Gutierrez provides solid defensive cover but has also proven to be a source of opening up opposing defenses with his persistent overlapping runs paired with his highly competent crossing.
