As we head into Matchday 35 of the La Liga season, the Catalans find themselves squaring off against Sociedad at the Lluis Companys Olympic Stadium. After quite an embarrassing showing in their recent fixture against Girona, Barca must look to win all the 3 points up for stake in order to regain some of their confidence.

Sociedad have a lot to fight for as they are currently contending for 6th place which would guarantee them a spot in next season’s Europa League.

Sociedad’s Style of Play and their Recent Form

In their 5 most recent games, Sociedad have won 2 games, drawn 2 games, and lost 1 where they lost 1-0 to Real Madrid. Over the span of these games, they have scored 6 goals and conceded only 4. Although they have frustratingly drawn in games against Almeria and Getafe, Sociedad have recently shown that they have an adept defense and they aren’t a team that will usually outscore you.

They are a well structured team whose aim is to have a major share of the possession as exemplified by their average ball possession of 56.4% in La Liga this season. Moreover, their solid defense has lauded them the honour of being the team with the second least conceded goals in La Liga this season with a total of 35, which is an average of about a goal conceded per game, an exemplary showing.

Sociedad’s Threatening Talents

Despite being a team of few goals, Sociedad possess a couple of talents that will provide the Barca defense with complications in their aim to maintain a clean sheet. One of these talents is the immensely gifted wonderkid who goes by the name of Takefusa Kubo. The Japanese International’s crafty abilities with the ball make him a very formidable offensive outlet from Sociedad’s right flank. Additionally, Brais Mendez has proven to be a very effective offensively oriented midfielder who has provided Sociedad with a great deal of goal contributions.

On the other half of the pitch, Robin Le Normand’s defensive rigour as well as Alex Remiro’s shot stopping ability will prove to be immense in Sociedad’s aim to prevent Barca from scoring at will.
